Joel and fellow students,

I am sad to say, but I agree with most of what was said. I will be completing my Associates in Business from Axia College in a few months. I am looking for another college because I honestly feel I took all my money and I threw it in the trash. Believe me I worked hard and I took in as much as I could... ON MY OWN.

I understand that Axia is designed for adult learning, but I just can't seem to understand how is ok for people to submit post like... "I agree because the economy is bad." My 3 year old could have said that! I know it's up to you to get the most out of your education, but to be honest I felt High School was more challenging!

I do think they let any person in. I was previously going to DeVry University and I remember having to take a math/reading/writing/computer test to make sure I qualified to enter certain classes. If the person was not able to do this, then they had to take entry level classes. I took Statistics and some other math classes for my business program; to my amazement students don't have to take any until the Bachelor's program. Things like that have been bothering me and since almost all my credits trasferred I just have 2 more classes. After that I am out.

Any suggestions as to where I should start looking?
I have looked into the Princeton Review so far.

Thanks!

That is wonderful and I am happy for you. Unfortunately, you are the exception and not the rule. I have also done my research and even though I would like to share a happy story about my time at Axia College of the University of Phoenix, my frustrations are shared by many, many more students and ex-students of this school.

In early summer 2008, the United States government published a study that clearly states that only 6% of the students who begin a degree program at the UOP actually graduate. I don't care how you look at it, 6% is atrocious! Now, I can understand how someone would not want to accept those pathetic numbers as fact (I didn't want to believe it, either) but, if you navigate over to the University of Phoenix web site and do a site search for graduation rate, or completion rate as they call it, they actually admit to a 17% rate. This contrasts with their "brick and mortar" counterpart's rate of 60%. Even that 60% is below average, and this is not a small university. We're talking about the largest, private university system in the nation.

So why is the grad rate so pitiful? Let's revisit my previous statements and those of countless others that are all over the Internet and you will begin to understand that our desire is not to complain but rather to inform.

I've just begun my second series of classes at Axia and am already having an issue with the teacher/facilitator/moderator or whatever the role is they actually fill. If i could have transferred out without additional out-of-pocket expenses, I would have done it already. However, I am stuck for the moment until these funds expire, then I will be able to move on. I am not naive enough to think that everything will be great as soon as I leave UOP for another school. I know I may face similar frustrations somewhere else but at least they'll have a better track record for working with students than the 6% record hanging on Axia's neck. And no, expenses are not an issue and I'd prefer to keep it that way.

As for employers, I am only concerned with the one whom I currently work for. After all, they are the ones I'm going to school for. They were accepting degrees from the University of Phoenix when I began my degree program. I'm hoping they still do.

I'll give this disclaimer: I'm certain that not all of the staff at Axia/UOP are terrible but the ones I've had as instructors/facilitators/moderators so far have been bad. The odds say there has to be one good one in there somewhere, right?

I enjoyed your response and I too wish you all the best. I really am happy you are doing well there, and hope you find abundant success in your chosen endeavors.

No, we don't send your posts to our servers or scan them in anyway. But we do use blog searches to find feedback for our product because it matters a lot to us.

Also, if you are interested, there is a beta version of WLW available:

I really don't understand all the difficulties that have been experienced by those of you who attended Axia College. I haven't had any difficulties that were insurmountable. As long as you study the material given it is possible to obtain a good GPA. I just obtained my AAIT Degree from Axia and decided to check out the online opportunities offered by universities in my area. I have found that they are either just as expensive (if not more by the time all is said and done). All but one of them would accept all credits I've earned at Axia. The University that wouldn't, couldn't accept my IT credits because they provide certifications in their degree program. They also asked for several $500 and $1000 fees on top of tuition and didn't provide any type of text books. All of those fees added up to approximately $3000 out of pocket expenses. This option was unacceptable considering I am not eligible for a Pell Grant and have no education expense budget. Therefore, I am going to continue my education with the University of Phoenix. I have done my research and all online universities are similar. You are responsible for learning the material and making passing grades. I have found that all online universities charge more than "brick and mortar universities" during my research. That research included public, private, and online Universities. So, if expense is the issue maybe a "brick and mortar University" should be considered. Unless the Institution you choose is very near your residence you will still pay dearly in time and money maintaining a ride and fuel going to go to and from classes. I've also spoken with several prospective employeers about my Degree. All said they evaluate their employees well before hiring. In other words they basically said they accept online Degrees but require validation of knowledge. Therefore, I'm going to continue my studies and retain the information so I will be able to pass any test I'm required to take to obtain an acceptable position in a good company. I send you all my Best Wishes for Good Luck in the advancement of your chosen professions.

Brandon,

Thanks for commenting. Glad Microsoft is listening. Are articles posted through Live Writer sent through Microsoft servers, or scanned by them in some way?

Kip,

Thanks, I'll try it out. I just wonder where the images upload to.

For the images, just click on Insert> Picture (in the toolbar, at the top), choose a picture, and insert it. In the right sidebar you will have a nice selection of picture borders, full control of size, borders, etc, and even the ability to tilt the image.
