In Theatre

Joel A. McDonald Jr.
Actor - Virginia Beach, Virginia
What drives a person to get up on stage to act, sing, and dance for the satisfaction of others? I got the performance bug in elementary school while singing in choir. Then, in 6th grade, I traveled around the school, classroom to classroom, putting on magic shows for other students. I loved it. They loved it. What more could I have asked for?
In theatre, what we do is often called “putting on plays”. We “play” characters. Alongside all this “playing” however is work. A great deal of time and energy is put into every production. And while we enjoy what we do, and often admit to be addicted to it, it’s a serious business. That’s why we call it show business.
And there’s no business like it! It’s the kind of business that will suck you dry only to have you ask at the close of a production; what’s next?
